Stomach and intestinal complaints can have many different causes. Physical triggers such as inflammation, infections, irritable bowel syndrome, stomach ulcers or organic changes such as gallstones or a diaphragmatic hernia are often responsible. Psychological stressors such as stress, anxiety, depression or unresolved inner conflicts can also lead to functional complaints for which no clear organic cause can be found. In such cases, the condition is referred to as psychosomatic.
Psychotherapeutic methods such as behavioural therapy or depth psychology-based counselling are primarily used to treat psychosomatic stomach and organ complaints. Prof. Junne presents further treatment options in the telephone forum.
Drug therapy can often be used to treat functional or inflammatory stomach and intestinal complaints. Depending on the findings, stomach protectors, antispasmodic drugs, anti-inflammatory preparations or antibiotics may be considered. The aim is to alleviate the symptoms, support healing and prevent further complaints. Dr Ulrike von Arnim is available to answer any questions.
